Bihar Institute of Economic Development” was established in 1973 to carry out research aimed at facilitating socio-economic development. In 1975 the Institute was renamed as “Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change (LNMI)” and very soon it diversified into education with courses in Office Management, Business Management, Computer Application, Marketing & Sales Management, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. As the demand for the various programmes changed with time, some of the courses were dropped, while others modified, and new ones added. Later on the Institute was taken over by the Government of Bihar.
Presently, the Institute offers courses in Management and Computer Application with appropriate support systems. The Institute’s campus is centrally located at 1, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Patna, west of Patna High Court and south of Patna Women’s College. Though over 52 years of glorious existence it reflects its excellence in the areas of Management and Computer Education, Research and Training not only inside the country but abroad through its extensive alumni base.
Every facility in the Institute is planned thoughtfully to create an environment where student can learn, innovate and grow. The institute is equipped with spacious smart classrooms with audio visual equipment to enhance interactive learning., six state-of-the art air- conditioned computer centres with Broad-Band and Leased Line based Internet facility round the clock. A very rich air-conditioned library with a vast collection of books, magazines, periodicals, journals of national and international repute, e-resources, digital learning tools supported by a comfortable reading space and high speed internet etc. are available. The Institute provides scope and opportunity for the cultural activities of the students; it has an impressive fully air-conditioned auditorium with 300 comfortable seats. The college also provides a secure, comfortable and fully air-conditioned Girls’ Hostel within the campus, designed to offer a home-like environment that support both academic focus and personal well-being. The hostel combines modern amenities with strong safety measures to ensure a safe, pleasant and stress-free residential experience for the students.
An online computer training centre has been established under the Capacity Building Programme Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India to impart computer training to Govt. of Bihar employees of various levels. A LAN has been established to interconnect different sections/cells /departments of the Institute to increase efficiency of the employees. A large number of National and International Research Projects related to Socio-economic condition have been completed and undertaken by the faculties of LNMI Patna.
The Institute has got an effective and efficient placement cell which functions as a catalyst in facilitating placement of the students suitably, the cell works continuously to create opportunities for students across diverse sectors. Guest lectures and seminars by industry experts help students to keep updated on market trends and industrial visits are organised to enhance their practical understanding. The Placement Cell has consistently achieved impressive placement records and has been always committed to ensure that every student develops the competencies required to succeed in a competitive workplace.

Recently, the institute has started the Management Development Centre in the campus. It is a dedicated hub for executive learning, leadership training and professional development. Inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister “Shri Nitish Kumar” in 2025, equipped with modern training facilities, high-tech conference rooms, breakout spaces and wellness amenities. The centre is designed to foster strategic thinking, collaboration and innovation in the campus. The MDC will empower to navigate complex business challenges and drive sustainable growth in due course of time.
